A mountainside winery was designed to unite contemporary architecture with Napa Valley’s rugged terrain, creating a hospitality experience that celebrates the region’s winemaking heritage and natural beauty. The design integrates hospitality spaces, production facilities, and 23 acres of estate vineyards into the rocky hillside while framing sweeping valley views.

The arrival sequence guides visitors through anticipation and discovery with enclosed courtyards create intimate moments before revealing panoramic vistas. Burnt cedar walls, smooth cave interiors, and outdoor seating areas blend modern design with mountainous character. Native grasses and drought-tolerant plantings soften built forms while responding to hillside conditions.

This landscape strengthens sense of place through elemental encounters with terrain. Morning light catches golden grasses against dark cedar. Afternoon gatherings frame vineyard rows marching down the hillside. Evening tastings reveal shifting shadow and light across the mountains. Each moment connects visitors to this working landscape where architecture, viticulture, and native ecology interweave.

This project was carried out in collaboration with Lutsko Associates.
